AllStar Node Control — Privacy Policy

This policy explains how the AllStar Node Control app for iPhone and iPad (“the app”) handles information. The app is developed and published by Jon Schulman, KB0RB (“I”, “me”), an independent developer.

Information I collect

None. I operate no servers, no accounts and no back end for this app. I do not collect, receive, store, sell, rent or share any personal information about you, your device or your use of the app.

In Apple’s App Privacy terms, the app’s data collection is declared as Data Not Collected.

Information stored on your device

To do its job, the app stores the settings you enter. This information is kept on your device only:

• Node connection details — the hostname or IP address, port number and any username, password or credentials you enter for each node you configure.
• Saved and favourite nodes — the list of nodes you have added, and any labels or ordering you give them.
• App preferences — display options and other settings you choose.

Credentials are held in the iOS Keychain, and other settings in the app’s own private storage. Neither is readable by other apps.

If you have iCloud Backup enabled for your device, this data may be included in your personal encrypted iCloud backup. That backup belongs to your Apple Account; it is not accessible to me.

Deleting the app deletes this data from your device.

Network connections the app makes

The app connects only where you direct it:

• Your nodes. When you operate a node, the app connects directly from your device to the address you configured for that node, using the credentials you supplied. Nothing is relayed through any service of mine.
• AllStarLink services. If you use a feature that looks up node information, the app queries AllStarLink’s public services directly from your device. Those queries are subject to AllStarLink’s own privacy practices. AllStar Node Control is not affiliated with or endorsed by AllStarLink, Inc.

Whether a connection to your node is encrypted depends on how that node is configured; the app cannot add encryption to a protocol that does not support it. If you reach your node across the public internet, use a VPN or another secure tunnel rather than exposing the node’s management port.

Analytics, tracking and advertising

The app contains no analytics, no crash-reporting services, no advertising and no third-party tracking SDKs. It does not track you across apps or websites, and there is no in-app purchase or subscription data to collect.

Diagnostics you may choose to share with Apple

If you have turned on Share With App Developers in Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements, Apple may provide me with aggregated crash logs and performance statistics for the app. This is a feature of iOS that you control, and Apple’s reports are anonymised and aggregated before I see them. You can turn it off in Settings at any time.

Separately, if you download the app from the App Store, Apple handles that transaction and gives me only aggregate sales and territory statistics. Apple’s handling of that information is covered by Apple’s Privacy Policy.

Children’s privacy

The app is not directed at children under 13, and since I collect no information at all, I do not knowingly collect information from children.

Your rights

Privacy laws including the EU and UK GDPR and the California Consumer Privacy Act give you rights to access, correct, delete and port the personal information a company holds about you, and to opt out of its sale.

Because I hold no personal information about you, there is nothing for me to produce, correct, delete or sell. You are in full control of the data on your device: you can view and change it inside the app, and remove all of it by deleting the app. I do not sell or share personal information, and never have.

Security

Credentials are stored using the iOS Keychain, which is encrypted by the operating system and protected by your device passcode, Face ID or Touch ID. Because your data never leaves your device, there is no account of yours for me to lose. Please protect your device with a passcode, and use strong, unique credentials on your nodes.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, I will post the updated version on this page and change the effective date at the top. Material changes will be noted in the app’s release notes. Earlier versions are available in the site’s public repository.
